San Francisco-based James Wavey (Michael Bridgmon), formerly known as Alleyes Manifest, is an independent artist and producer celebrated for blending evocative storytelling with rich, self-produced instrumentation. Rooted in deep social consciousness and internal exploration, his music captures the complexities of the modern human experience.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Michael began his musical quest in St. Louis, Missouri. Heavily influenced by dub, gospel, and hip-hop, he now writes and collaborates with various musicians in the Bay Area, including co-bandmate Jafar Green. Over time, he has built a dedicated following in the indie DIY scene, releasing music under labels such as Jim's Pool Room, Econo Jam Records, Dandy Boy Records, and his own Mantra Music Group.
James Wavey's versatile career spans from performing solo as an emcee to fronting a full band. Highlights of his performance history include:
- Opening for legendary acts such as the Zamrock band W.I.T.C.H., Shannon & The Clams, and Daptone Records' The Mystery Lights.
- Serving as an opening DJ for The Roots and Lee Fields.
His discography includes seven albums, five of which were released on vinyl. His latest project, the EP Sleepers Break, was recorded live with a band at Wylwood Records and marks a bold sonic evolution by blending garage rock and soul with raw, introspective lyricism.
